Christopher Kratt

Assistant Research Remote Sensing/GIS Scientist Division of Earth and Ecosystem Sciences Desert Research Institute

Email: ckratt@dri.edu

Education

  • M.S.,University of Nevada, Reno, Geology, 2005
  • B.S., Plymouth State University, Geography, 2001

Professional Interests

As a graduate student Mr. Kratt began using spaceborne and airborne, multispectral and hyperspectral data sets to explore for and map geothermal-related minerals. He continues to pursue this work and regularly uses a field spectrometer for calibration, validation, and surface characterization. While at DRI Mr. Kratt has become increasingly involved with vegetation discrimination, change detection, and classification with both multispectral and hyperspectral data sets. In addition to processing remote sensing data he synthesizes the results with other spatial data in geographic information systems (GIS) for further analysis and more informed interpretation. Research Areas

  • Geothermal exploration
  • Hyperspectral and multispectral mineral mapping
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Image processing for vegetation analysis
