The
Department of Geological Sciences at UNR provides excellent research
facilities for both field and laboratory research and include standard
XRD/XRF, SEM, EMP, laser-assisted ICP-MS, stable isotope, fluid
inclusion analysis capabilities, cathodoluminescence, and standard
optical transmitted and reflected light microscopy. The department
maintains four vehicles for field work.
The DeLaMare Library houses an exceptional collection of textbooks and journals in geology, geophysics, geochemistry and paleonotoloy. The Ansari Map Library, located within the DeLaMare Library, is the largest map library in the state and is home to the W. M. Keck Earth Sciences and Mining Research Information Center, which provides GIS specialized bibliographic databases, scientific visualization and modeling packages, and geospatial data resources. A world-class rock and mineral collection can be found next door at the W.M. Keck Museum.
The Mapping, Modeling, and Visualization Lab provides laser printers (b/w and color), inkjet printers, a color plotter, a 35mm film recorder, image scanners, and high speed network access to the Internet
