The geology program at the Mackay School of Mines offers liberal arts studies, together with hands-on learning with state-of-the-art instrumentation in technical subjects within the field of geology. The Mackay School of Mines is situated in an outstanding geologic setting, at the boundary between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin, providing great opportunities for field studies. Coursework and research in the department encompass the full spectrum from basic to applied research. Within the area of applied research, activities range from environmental earth science and engineering to exploration geology and geophysics.

  The Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering offers the following degrees:

Geology - B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
Geological Engineering -  B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
Geophysics - B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
Geochemistry - M.S., Ph.D.
Hydrogeology - B.S.

Students, their parents, and faculty enjoy a BBQ outside the Geology Department.
