This is our second Micromass IsoPrime stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer, with three attached interfaces:
1. Directly attached to the right of the mass spectrometer itself, with the silvered insulation mat underneath, is the dual inlet, which allows for the analysis of samples which have been prepared offline (such as the BrF5 extraction line), or prepared using the MultiPrep system;
2. Furthest to the right is the Gilson autosampler, which has a heated aluminium block with 60 holes for sample vessels, and a moving sample arm. This autosampler is an integral part of the MultiPrep system, which can prepare water samples for O and H isotope analysis, and carbonate samples for C and O isotope analysis; and
3. Behind the mass spec is the gas chromatography system,
consisting of an Agilent gas chromatograph and an interface system.
This system can be used for C, H and/or O isotope analysis of any gas chromatograph-resolvable
compounds.
