Delphi Round 1 - Introduction

Delphi Process Introduction

September 1999

It is our intention to keep this process as simple and streamlined as possible, while thoroughly addressing the questions at hand. We will complete numerous iterations of the Delphi process. As we receive your responses to the Delphi questions, Eric Rodenburg of the USGS and Deborah Shields of the U.S. Forest Service will begin crafting a synthesis of the ideas that respondents present.

This synthesis, as well as original responses with all names and/or characteristics that may identify the authors removed, will be electronically distributed to all participants for a second round of commentary. At that time, add-on questions derived from initial responses will also be presented for comment and review.

During this second session of commentary, we would also like participants to respond to the new questions. We also will welcome any suggestions for modifications to the synthesis that Eric and I have created. While we are not placing any length limitations on responses, we encourage you to present viewpoints as succinctly as possible to facilitate completion of this process in a timely manner.

It is our hope that ideas and information derived from this process will provide substantial material to be addressed at our meetings. We look forward to receiving your responses. Please contact Deborah Shields at dshields@fs.fed.us or 970/295-5975 for additional information.

Task Force Question 1:

What do you think sustainability means for nonrenewable resources, given that sustainable development has environmental, economic, and social dimensions?
